My BIG Question:
'How did Catherine the Great interact and perceive people in her personal life?'
Who was Catherine the Great?
Catherine the Great (1729 - 1796)
Catherine the Great was not always known as 'Catherine', she was given that name. In fact, she was born named 'Sophie Friederike Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst'. Shockingly, Catherine was not even Russian, she was born in Szczecin Poland, and was the daughter of a German prince.

Becoming Catherine:
Sophia was the daughter of Prince Christian August of Anhalt-Zerbst and Princess Johanna Elizabeth of Holstein-Gottorp. Sophia's parents, who had been hoping for a son, did not show a great deal of affection toward their daughter. As a child, Sophia was close to her governess Babette, who Sophia described as, "the kind of governess every child should have." Sophia's education emphasized the subjects considered proper for one of her class: religion (Lutheranism), history, French, German, and music.
When Sophia was fifteen, she went to Russia at the invitation of Empress Elizabeth to meet the heir to the throne, the Grand Duke Peter III (1728–1762), an immature and disagreeable youth of sixteen. Soon after Sophia changed her name to Catherine and converted to the Russian Orthodox faith, she and the young Grand Duke were married in 1745.

Feminist Point of View:
Catherine the Great is one of the many women who changed the world. Catherine was one of the largest political leaders in the 18th century by both expanding the Russian Empire, continuing the work of Peter the Great and by using aspects of the Enlightenment within her rein. Catherine's foreign expansion, gained a higher achievement than most Russian rulers before her, which, together with her more successful reforms, is a good reason why she is the only female ruler of history which is called “the Great” by the historians to this very day.
In a feminists point of view, Catherine the Great was an excellent ruler who changed Russia for the better, which not only empowered herself, but also to all women as she proved that women can become great rulers that can achieve and benefit more than a man could.

The death of Catherine the Great:
Catherine the Great died on November 17th, 1796 from the natural cause of a stroke. Many myths and accusations have circulated after her death, these myths and accusations are false and were used in the hope of discrediting her many achievements gained throughout her life. Women were particularly targeted within the area of their sexual orientation or activities. Catherine the Great isn't the only example of this, Marie Antoinette was accused of being wildly promiscuous, by having both male and female lovers. This accusation of Marie Antoinette has been confirmed to be incorrect as have Catherine's accusations.
